TV sketch show comedians Idiots of Ants share laughs with learners

28th November 2011
BBC3 and E4 sketch show comedians Idiots of Ants were in college on Friday to deliver a workshop to over 30 students.
The students are working towards creating their own stand-up and sketch show material to perform at the next Dave's Leicester Comedy Festival. Each year Regent College hosts the 'Teenage Kicks' event where local youngsters get to perform their own brand of humour.
The level 3 BTEC Performing Arts students have to do a stand-up routine and a sketch show for one of the units they are studying. The students will perform to, potentially, a national audience as the event is being advertised alongside all the other shows in the festival brochure and website.
The Ants will be running a second workshop with the students before their show at Dave’s Leicester Comedy Festival.
Jack, 16, said: “I thought that it was really good! They (Idiots of Ants) have given me the confidence to do stand-up. I can’t wait for them to come back again - I’ll be in early, even if it’s snowing!”
Rosie Walton, a Level 2 Performing Arts student, is organising the entire event for a unit she is studying on the BTEC diploma.
Teacher Rachel said: “The students really enjoyed the workshop. I would like to thank the Idiots of Ants for giving our students the opportunity to work with them. The practical experience is invaluable, not only do they get to work with professional comedians to develop their own unique brand of comedy, they also improve confidence and stage presence, and get to perform at a national comedy event.”
