MP Jon Ashworth helps exam revision

MP John Ashworth posing with a group of students

12th December 2011

Jon Ashworth MP for Leicester South took time out of his busy schedule to meet with AS and A2 Government and Politics students on Friday. The Labour MP who has just been promoted to the Opposition Whip team informed the group about his work in the commons and his efforts to best represent his constituents.

During the the lively question and answer session the interested students quizzed him on what it's like to be an MP, his work as an Opposition Whip and asked whether having to support the party leadership at all times ever gets in the way of representing his constituents.

Jon Asworth MP said: "I was very impressed with the tough questioning from the Regent students…one or two of them could be the Jeremy Paxman of the future.”

The students are about to sit the Governing Modern Britain exam in January, where they will be answering questions on MPs, their work and their roles, so the session was very useful for their revision.

Teacher Jake Dodds said: “Loads of excellent questions from our students."
