Choosing where to continue your education is a major decision and I believe that Regent is a good choice, especially if you are ambitious and determined to succeed. I'm delighted that you have chosen, or are in the process of considering Regent College for your studies.
Regent is a diverse and friendly learning community. We are organised around the needs of individuals and we are totally focused on helping every one of our students to succeed. Regent students do very well and we are very proud of their achievements. July 2010 Update
It has once again been a busy and successful year and we wish our completing students every success as they await results and plan their progression and careers beyond Regent College. The college has again received a record level of applications and those who have confirmed the college as their first choice joined us for taster days before the end of term. We very much look forward to welcoming our new students and our enrolment and confirmation days are planned for the week beginning 23rd August.
Our successful space Olympics team were invited to attend a reception with the Lord Mayor of Leicester to celebrate their wonderful achievements over in Russia. Planning for the next years trip is well under way and we look forward to more success.
The Government and Politics students did brilliantly to plan and organise a full mock election within the college to mirror the national general election. This raised awareness of the policies that were being debated and of the processes that were taking place in the general election.
In their final preparation for exams AS and A2 Law students have been hosting legal advice clinics and acting as lawyers advising on a range of complex issues. This has been coupled with visits to Leicester Crown Court to see first hand the law being applied.
On the sporting front Regent College students participated in the University and Colleges Varsity sports event and came away as the overall winners of the Boys Football and Girls Basketball competitions.
April 2010 Update
Results from Advanced level modules taken in the early part of the spring term have just been published and have shown a further dramatic rise in achievement with 2010 results showing a 12% higher pass rate in AS level modules and 13% higher in A level modules when compared to those taken in Spring 2009
I was delighted to be able to attend the Univeristy Hospitals of Leicester Presentation Evening on 24th February 20101. The evening was a wonderful celebration of the achievements of our learners who work within the NHS and who have progresed their qualifications through study with Regent college. We are proud to have played our part in the Outstanding Ofsed rating recently achieved by the UHL Trust for their training function.
On 27th April the college organised and hosted our annual schools Sowcase of Performing Arts talent at the presigious De Montfort Hall venue just across University Road from the college. We were delighted to be able to involve performers to join Regent Performing Arts students in an entertaining showcase from our close partners Wyggeston Queen Elizabeth I College, as well as City and County schools. There were fantastic perfromers from across the County, as far reaching as Market Bosworth and Lutterworth . The calibre of the performances was again impressive and drew acclaim from the Mayor of Lutterworth who wrote in his published lettter to the Leiceter Mercury "Everyone concerned ought to feel really proud...Thank you for a wonderful evening and keep up the good work"
January 2010 Update
The national performance tables have now been officially published and we are very proud to be placed as the highest achieving of all colleges in Leicester and Leicestershire for 2009, based on the key measure of 'contextual value added' (progress of all learners). The value added progress of Regent College learners has consistently been within the top 10% of all schools and colleges nationally for a number of years and this year is the best yet, placing the college close to the top 5% nationally. Furthermore based on average overall points per learner Regent was also placed in the top 3 of all Leicester and Leicestershire Colleges, along with our close neighbour and collaborative partner WQEI College.
October - December 2009 update
In December it was confirmed that the college has been successfull in gaining substantial funding to develop a specialist centre for Society, Health and Development courses and will begin work on this facility for completion by February 2010. The college will be working collaboratively with key health and care professionals including the University Hospitals of Leicester and schools in the city and county to develop and share this new and fantastic resource.
Our evening for new parents took place on Wednesday 7th October: Myself and the Senior Management Team were delighted to welcome parents to the college for an evening of information and discussion. We would like to express our thanks to the many parents who were able to attend and it was particularly interesting and valuable to have had he opportunity to discuss experiences of the start to term. It has been a very good start to the academic year and I look forward to meeting parents again later this term at the wider staff consultation evening.
Governors: At the start of each year the college seeks both parent and student Governors and a process is currently taking place through the college council to appoint two student Governors for this year. We would be delighted to hear from you if you are a current parent of a student at Regent College and might be able to give some of your time to the important role of Parent Governor.
This month over 200 students took part in a range of community and volunteering events across the City as part ot their Global Citizens' College Extended Studies programme. The feedback has been fantastic from the individuals and organisations involved. Well done to all involved.
Students of the college are preparing to head off to Russian at the end of the month to represent the City of Leicester at the International Space Olympics. We wish them all an enjoyable and successful visit.
